Zombies and Maulers

So I started listening to the whole series again, because of this painfully long absence, and started to piece certain things together that I didn't even notice before. Excuse my lack of a timeline in placing these thoughts but I'm forming these points up as I type em, lol

SPOILER 

> The first encounter with the Maulers is extremely odd at first because they take possession of the rigs in ridiculous amounts. It makes no sense at the beginning, but now that they organized an attack directly towards the zombies, one quote stands out. Scratch mentions (i cant remember what ep.) that "he has plans for those rigs" and that they need all of them. This is considerably early on in the series.

> During their attack on the tower, it seemed awfully strange that NO zombies what so ever appeared until the bottles of sweat where thrown. Up to now all they've needed to go vicious and attack has been noise and they did not show up until they picked up a strong scent of food. They also didn't stay long after their numbers dwindle. They have stayed for hours before to wait for food (when Saul, Angel, and Bert are on the roof; when Angel and Kalani are hiding with Skittles; etc.) and it seems odd that they wouldn't just wait for the fire to go out and for the tower to consume itself.

> In Chp 21-3/3, Kelly comments on Pipin: "Doesn't seem like someone who'd be spending hard time in a maximum security prison... No tattoos, and is a bit on the gangly side. [I] doubt he'd last very long in a place like that." [4:16 - 4:27]. 'Ink' however is over 6' tall, covered with tattoos and not at all gangly. Definitely someone who, at least as a human, would stereotypically fir the bill of someone who's done plenty of hard time in jail.

My thoughts now:

Ink is part of an experiment that used convicts to do [insert evil plot here]. Ink and Durai probably share a past together, but once Ink became one of them Durai became top in comand of the rest of the convicts. Durai is probably agains the whole zombie experiment thing (personal vendetta?) and as such knows exactly where and how to hit them hard enough, thus he comes up with a plan to attack extremely early on. Another note someone made in here is that it makes no sense how so many places where raided so fast, and how Scratch managed to free her brother and every one in time enough to survive the massive spread of disease. {Original Thread: Anyone ever wonder how the maulers raided everything so quickly?}
If they are connected, then maybe the convicts where released on purpose with time to escape, or where free (because of the experiment) at the time of the breakout, which would have made it easier for them to leave the prison.
Any takes on this?
