A daydream on how to kill em by the thousands that is if you want to stick it to them.
A barrier: could be fencing or vertical pipe cattle guard
bait:Loud music or screaming from a speaker sweat bombs.
The kill shot:retrofitted steam roller roll'n em over in a pretty little line..
The problem I see is clogging. The dead bodies are going to pile up so removal may be necessary, but if you can get hold of a steam roller then a backhoe will be no big.
Maniacal laughing the whole way,

That would depend on what genre zombie you're talking. slow Romero Zombies.. steam roll away. These damn KC and crew Things... they'll give you the middle finger then electric slide right out the way then tear up the cage to the driver.

*blink, blink*
This is perhaps one of the funniest things I have read in a long time.
Can I suggest another funny mental image? Remember that clap over the head and foot slide in the Thriller video? That would be an epic amount of awesome if they did that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh god I'm picturing them doing both.
They're all boogie woogie woogie slide above-head-clap!
I have the giggles now.

ROFL! As they hit the ground with bits and pieces hanging from their jaws, they moon walk Stage Left...and fade to black...

Instead of running at you, they do that wide stanced barrel walk thing and if they change direction they pivot on one foot only in a shuffle step...
But I do wonder: What would make an effect zombie trap for KC's set of zombies? Like electrified fencing around the tower, or deep trenches around the perimeter filled with spikes or something like that?

No clean up necessary. Gasoline. Match. Profit.

That is gruesomely funny, hardy har. My son peed his pants for me, luckily.
How about beefing up some farm equipment like a swather?
I am shooting for my electronic engineer degree so I'll counter a tore up cage with remote control.
It makes sense to go on the offense, right?

See, I think in terms of defense in layers instead of traps per se. The people who set the traps at the Colony obviously have training to do such thing and you have to be deviously clever to think up those things. Also, most traps are only good for ones and twos. No good when you have hundreds to thousands converging on you.
You'll need things to narrow the numbers (create a choking point), create areas to make them mass up (so you can blow them up) and areas to slow them down long enough for the best target selection.
There should be hundreds of abandoned cars that can be moved into position for an outter wall (maybe 2 rows).. I'm getting off topic, so i'll stop there.

You are on target there CrowBar. I guess I've planted this thread too soon. I should have gone first with defense. Offense would be a long term survival theme while a defense is short term as well as long term.
Also Bar, I don't believe The Colony set traps. These were defenses, no offense. That is my opinion.
Back to the subject I'll use your bottle neck between buildings is a cable that can contract very fast via semi truck or dead fall from building and shick, you have crawlers or better, headless.

Throwing out a soft ball to get other ideas rolling.
Wood Chipper anyone?
I rescind my thought that The Colony doesn't set traps "period". They are very likely going to set traps however the structure we saw was a fortified outpost used in emergencies.

Luring the zombies into a pitfall of some kind would be fun, some kinda wood chipper or trash compactor entertaining sure...
On the defensive side of the plate, Napalm/Flamethrower alleyways, chainsaw slotted barricades, and given the appropriate circumstances demolition of key buildings in and around my area of operations whilst luring in the infected via blood/sweat/train horns.
You can set traps, create ambush sites, and mold your battlefield by restricting the avenues of approach to your "Tower" by moving cars, fencing, even fires.
But a key point I find here in these infected soldiers is the uncanny ability to return for the dead.
Keeping that in mind, it should be simple to quickly double up on your kill count.

Muffins,
I think drawing them into a building and dropping the whole damn thing on a horde would be sickly sweet. It sure was a good way to take out a Big One! I'd be for dismantling a rear end for a behemoth sized cross bow! anyone for 2X2X48" arrows?
MAscaria,
If the monsters want to drag off the scraps, I'll let them. Once the dead stop disappearing I'll have a pretty good idea that their numbers are dwindling. Good gauge.

Teeth,
A giant crossbow isn't out the question. They'd just need someone who'd be able to make one. We're technology based now. The OLD skills are all but gone in society.
Having said that, at no point in history has any number of traps stopped a determined host of foes from reaching the walls of any fort or castle.

That is storming the castle. And, I would disagree with the no point in history. Too broad of a stroke but you covered yourself by stating it is a determined host. Your point is proven about defenses. Perhaps we need a thread on defenses.
