So, it is up to you, guys. Which song / theme suits a particular character best?

To make a start on this, here is a suggestion for Bill Roberts.

Holy crap, this is such a good question. There are soooo many songs and so many bands and sooooo many character traits that songs might exemplify for any given character. I just don't even know where to start, but I'm going to go with an obvious choice:

Scratch.

It'd be easy to choose something like Apex Predator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxVkAAh2D7M) by Otep, but I don't really hear it when I think of Scratch. Then I wonder what she'd listen to when she's just pimpin' around the living room, or hanging out in the tub or whatever, and it's easy to go with I'll Cut Your Hands Off (http://www.reverbnation.com/maartenswaan/song/3143423-melou-ill-cut-your-hands-off-battery) by Melou (great band by the way). If I think of her back story I could say, "Oh well it only makes sense that it'd be Somewhat Damaged (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEjs01ibSJk) by Nine Inch Nails." But it's not that easy to pick one single facet to sum up the character with a piece of music, and I'm not even getting into cues from film scores. Jesus, we'd be here all year if I did. This is really something I should have blogged about--and I still may. Yeah. I have no answer for this, so it looks like this IS going to become a blog entry.

Hm, I am making a bold move and postulate that under his rough shell, Burt and his late wife liked Bowie's Heroes. He is a romantic guy and he truly loved his wife.

Sorry I'm late in responding to these posts, but I'm keeping away from current threads because I'm still not finished with Season 3. This song by Jewel just resonates Pegs to me. I'm sorry I couldn't find a proper video...the live performances are extremely annoying. Enjoy...and warning, if you've never heard this song before or get an allergic reaction to Jewel's music, this song might make you itch.

I think brick house for Riley. It is not quite right because some of it is sexual in nature, but..

She is built like a brickhouse
She is the one, she is the only one built like amazon.

We can be biased by Claire Dodin and the images of Riley in the chapter pictures, but there are many occasions we are described the physicality of Riley

paraphrasing
Chapter 1+2
Michael says I've not seen army girls not put together as well as she was
Pegs I thought the dresses were a little large, but they would totally fit Riley

Jumping rooftops on the way to the arena
Angel says Datu is shorter

Chapter 24 impersonating Pegs
Burt says yea, if they are expecting a tranny

Chapter 37 at Angel's grave being hugged
Burt says easy, I was in the hole while you were out playing GI Jane

One last thing about Riley. We have seen her balk at heights
Season 1 jumping rooftops
Season 2 going to the fire truck
Season 3 escape the hospital

I expect similar stress to a greater height, but this time she powers through it without someone lowering her down or there to catch her.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you THANK you for posting this!
I've been thinking a lot about all the relationships in WA and how accurate they are. It's all about timing and meeting in the middle. Unfortunately for Pegs and Michael, Angel and Riley, it seems like the typical case of " don't know what you've got..."

I'm a huge fan of heartbreak....disco, stories, poetry, books. There's just something about longing and the gut punching ache of wanting something so bad that every single time you have a moment to grab it, it just disappears, or worse, it crumbles in your hand. WAAAAH!

This song by The Strokes reminds me of Kelly's and Michael's pretty much at the beginning of WA. Kelly had her point of view and surely had his. I would consider it as fitting for Kelly at that particular and uncertain time. Sometimes, you just have to get along with a broad variety of people. You do not have to love or even like nevertheless.

After finally getting back in here on this thread, I have come up with a few ideas. Although I do have a couple specifics, I tend to think a bit more thematically... at least I did with these.
(I'll just post the links rather than imbed as I have a bunch of them.)

For the Pegs & Michael relationship: Something About You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-zP66eSLto) by Level 42.
For a scenario involving the Redemption and Death of Scratch: I'll Fall With Your Knife (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPsMqcmA0K8) by Peter Murphy.
For a Mission Preparation Montage: The Eton Path Underture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHV91unhx5g) by Corner Stone Cues.
Lost battle montage/lonely sunset walk back: All You Zombies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LE0KpcP05I) by The Hooters. (I feel I kinda had to throw this one in there.)
For the Zombie Hive from which none return: Dark Ages (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl7i_YxDl-8) by Two Steps From Hell.
For the wretched depths of TOWTM's inner sanctum: Night Terrors (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_f29K9vn4E) & Saw Blade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjAp5lbsJwQ) by Corner Stone Cues.
For the epic chase/escape: Nemesis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9Ej80wM4wI) by Two Steps From Hell or Tribal War (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u3Ux6ky57Y) by Hans Zimmer. (Blackhawk Down OST)

(Frankly, damn near anything in the CSC and 2SFH catalogs would work out somewhere, notably 2SFH's albums Invincible and Nemesis. Immediate and Audio Machine too, but I am less familiar with their work.)

I thought I might be able to come up with a few more in the "mainstream" music variety, but I'll have to think on it for a bit more.

When thinking of TOWTM I immediately thought of these two songs:

Stephen Lynch - Tattoo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRk0GeL-f8s)
And
"Weird Al Yankovic - Another Tattoo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji1KchszA0w)

Let's see if I can find some more serious ones. :D

Pearl Jam - Soon Forget (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op2Qm3B8XgI) made me think of Bill, for some reason. (Tower-Bill, not crazy-serial-killer-and-possibly-tattooed-zombie-Bill).
The Used - Taste of Ink (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2C36O0Yxoc) ... Title says all... (I didn't even know this song until now, but yeah... With a good enough imagination it could probably fit Ink quite well... IDK.)

And finally one for mister Skittles:
The Used - The Bird and the Worm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv9zDC5HaKs)

So I have this theory that I've posted about before that Ink is some sort of dark cultist given by some power the task of destroying humanity. It's almost certainly not true, but I still think it's pretty cool. Anyway, this song reminds me of Ink in light of that theory.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArELZEYr444

Time stops inside the realms of wonder, roam with thoughts in flight
Visions flow down from another realm
A mind hypnotized while sinking under, breaking ties that bind
Thinking all's been said and done

Come, now step inside and enter our forgotten dominion
Experience all, become one of our portals into your world

Abruptly bliss then fell asunder, joy replaced with fright
In encounter with a force insane
Of worlds they spoke, devoid of life
Where every being present soar unborn, brooding out of sight

Gods without eyes drinking from your feeble mind, a thirst divine
Drain mankind and we will be reborn, replacing all human life

Come, you stepped inside and entered our forgotten dominion
Experience all, become one of our portals into your world

Skies set ablaze, the sight remains of dying worlds
Fear not the fate that follows, it has just begun

Come, you stepped inside and entered our forgotten dominion
Experience all, become one of our portals into your world

With that said, and a few click-throughs... I stumbled across Glory and Gore.

Were the show to become serialized in a visual format, I think that it would make a good theme song in/for the show. (Closing credits, leitmotif) In holding with the tradition of multiple meanings for the Chapter titles, leave it unsaid who the theme is meant for... the survivors, the Mallers or the zombies.

In keeping with my trend of thinking more thematically rather than character driven, I was thinking about the trend/stylistic choice in some TV shows to have a different song playing during the closing scenes of the episode, usually over a montage of sorts and often thematically relevant to the tone of the episode...

Again, for a an episodic visual derivative of We're Alive, I give you Empire, by Shakira:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QapfTGTXbxc

Wanna be yours, wanna be your hero...
Like the empires of the world unite, We Are Aliiiiiive....

I'm just gonna raise my head,
Welcome to the final end,
And I'm gonna fight...
