Hi guys,

I will be absent from this great forum due to a surgery on Wednesday. I do not want to raise any false hopes, it will be a tough ride as I will have to travel through dangerous territory, more precisely my journey will take me to Halberstadt, which lies in former GDR territory. Or, like I use to say each time my girl-friend and I enter the post-communistic thunderdome (she is from the former GDR and she hates me for that):

The danger zone.

Hopefully, I will be back until the weekend and look a bit less like

http://comradesinarms.tripod.com/movies/Bond/Jaws2.jpg

after some of the metal is removed from my lower jaw bone. So, see you all in a couple of days then!

Gosh, I really hope that I do not look that bloody like last time.

Hi, I am back. Thanks for your get-well wishes.

This is a close approximation how I am currently looking:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/11/Arothron_meleagris_by_NPS_1.jpg/220px-Arothron_meleagris_by_NPS_1.jpg

Still feeling some pain - and of course less blood and less skull bone metal plates.

YABC,

Hard to believe it's been nearly 24 years since the borders opened and the Wall came down! Were you old enough to follow those events as they happened? I was in Germany at the time with the US Army, and I remember being scared, and happy, and humbled by the sense that enormous events were happening around me. And most of all I remember being happy for all of you Germans, and very, very proud of how well you all handled yourselves and treated one-other.

Pardon me while I put on headphones, cue up "Winds of Change" and reminisce.

Hi Cabbage Patch,

I was able to witness how the Wall crumbled down. These days were pretty strange because it was positively shocking. Everyone knew that this was history in the making. Besides, it was a VERY rare example of something good done by Germans in the twentieth century. And I guess that we all can say that this event was a real turning point for the Cold War era, though I would say that I was excites as well what would happen in the near future when the military coup took place in Russia in 1991. Fortunately, the latter did not succeed.

Cabbage Patch, thank you for your engagement during that time. And thanks for mentioning the Scorpions which will certainly cause an brain aneurysm in my head soon.

Close.

Yeah, my facial features appear just as swollen as Yaphet Kotto's in Live And Let Die:

And I seem to enter the blue haematoma phase right now. Looks like there is more fun ahead.

Man, I really hope that you recover ASAP from this treatment. I cannot imagine the pain and the problems that are the comrades of the treatment, but at least I know that I would not want to be in...

Hi at all,

here is a picture of my "metal of honor", just in case...

I have used a 20 cent Euro coin as size reference which has a 22.25 mm diameter (0.87 inches)

At least you are not Frankensteins Monster anymore ... ;)
And the loose screws are gone as well.

Good job!
