I'll argue with the ref, although not to stir the pot but I thought we went through this and could use one word that was made from two seperate words. Drive + way = driveway, then way + ward = wayward. Each of these are single words with meaning on their own while able to make a single word together.
Anyways to carry on....
Through + Put = Throughput

Hmm... What is a 'Jigset'? From what I found, it is either two words, like a set of jigs (for maneuverability of a planer), a dance (I will dance a set of Jigs), or it has some hidden meaning.
Robzombie
Feb 27th, 2013, 09:24 PM
Yup, its a hidden meaning.
Actually its a prescribed or predetermined pattern used for constructing stuff. My own interpretatation, no googling here. A reference pattern, or master 'box' to be able to construct with regularity or consistancy.

Feb 28th, 2013, 12:43 AM
edit: rant cut away; no need for shit like this, BUT:
I ask for clarification on the rules. There are only two explicit mentioning of rules. (a) and (b) in PS
1) This is game is about words that "go together" - (a). What does this mean?
Yesterday I thought for a while before I dropped "way ward" as a pair, because I was not sure; but then I thought this might be valid, because a) both words have their own meaning, while b) "put together" they make up for a new word.
Obviously "putting together" is not the same as "going together", while "going together" is not the same as "stringing together".
2) Osiris mentioned as an aside that the two words "going together" needs to make sense - like for example creating the name of an object - (b).
Ok. These are the only two "rules" I found; and I prefer considering them 'guidelines' - especially with respect to the many, many examples we had in 35 pages of this game already.
To make things more complicated and as written in my next posting (which I posted before I edited this one) I really recommend linking explanatory stuff for very special items to make your game-competitors understand what you actually mean ...
All the best!
Liam
(a)
Here's how it breaks down for those of you who haven't done it before.
Each player posts two words that go together, but he must use the second word that the last player posted and a new one of his own.
Example:
First "French Bread"
Second "Bread Pudding"
Third "Pudding Pop"
And so on . . .
and
We seem to be spinning off into words that don't actually "go together," in favour of words that you can string together in a sentence.
Book banned?
Addiction Kills?
Kills Rule?
It's starting to get a little out there, so let's try and bring it back in to words that actually go together as opposed to words you can string together in the context of a sentence.
Examples again for the unclear:
Blueberry Muffin
Muffin Pan
Pan Flute
Flute Player
(b)
Would totally fit the rule, yes. It's two words that create the name of an object, so absolutely. Button Tag would be a little more borderline because it makes almost no sense at all.
LiamKerrington
Feb 28th, 2013, 12:47 AM
Wtf is 'jigset': I ran several dictionaries and even, wikipedia and urban dictionaries ... Nothing.
Onle Google offers a "solution", which would be "Jig Set" and not "jigset", thus a two-word thing ... And this "Jig Set" would be stuff for a drill.
I humbly ask the Referee - whoever it is - to take action.
And sorry for being a morron. But nearly always someone adds a very special word-couple, he/ she also adds a source - like a youtube video, wikipedia article or something else for explanation ...
All the best!

You'll have to differ to the thread referee now. Litmaster.
As for the rules, I had thought them to be quite straight forward. Two words that are commonly found being paired with one another to create something instantly recognizable as an object or action. I had honestly believed that the examples in the first post (and subsequent clarification attempts) would be enough to keep us all on track. Apparently, I've neglected to consider how translation between languages can change phrasing, thus making it difficult for everyone to play on a level field.

You'll have to differ to the thread referee now. Litmaster.
Ok, I am not the self-proclaimed referee of the thread. In fact, I think I explicitly stated earlier that a submission should stand unless it causes Osiris to go ballistic. In this case, I went ballistic, but certain issues with the English language cause my panties to bunch (i.e., can anyone explain to my why the hell we have a silent 'p' in 'receipt'???). Admittedly, I am a bit particular with certain things, but I don't want to be the sole arbitrator of this thread. Half this shit got slid past me when I wasn't even online, anyway!
So how about this: Osiris can be Scylla, and I'll be Charybdis. If you can sneak shit by either of us... you're good.

Heh heh.... only when I get my panties in a bunch over something. I still think we should be going with collocations (e.g., zero tolerance, save time), not compound words (e.g., cannot, freeway).
Bullshit! Jigset never should have held!!!! You're lucky I was at work, or I would have been ALL OVER THAT!!!
Necroptosis inhibitor (I admit - I went to google: http://info.agscientific.com/blog/bi...sis-Inhibitors)
What the fuck??!? What is that, something to prevent people from creating a City of the Dead??!?
Ah, screw culture. If Liam wants to argue that "Schneider Weisse" goes together, then God Bless 'Im. Half the fun is in arguing over this stuff, after all. :)
Wow. And I thought I had no life. I raise my glass to your lifelessness, Osi! :omgomg: OMG LilMeister has been bitten!!
Break time
Time out! Agreed, take a breather everyone.
This thread is spiralling out of control. What's next? Someone going to start posting drink recipes.
Does this count?

Robzombie

Tropical Hooters anyone?
Ingredients,
1 oz. Liqueur, melon
1 oz. Rum, coconut (Malibu)
2 oz. Cranberry Juice
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
Mixing Instructions
Mix ingredients over ice in glass. Shake if preferred.
Anything with hooters has got to be good.
After not reading anything in that post, I'm giving WD the win and re-boot to the thread, please.
